A 24-year-old motorist led Bradenton Beach police on a chase from Bridge Street to the north end of the city just after midnight Dec. 4.
The chase ended when the 1998 Buick driven by Mark Goodwin of Cortez failed to negotiate the S-curve in the 2000 block of Gulf Drive North.
The Buick hit the rails on both sides of the curve before coming to rest in the grass along the east side of the road, according to police reports.
Exiting the vehicle with his hands up, Goodwin surrendered to Bradenton Beach Officer Steven Masi.
About seven people were in the vehicle, some sitting on laps.
The BBPD report stated three people, including Goodwin, suffered injuries, received medical treatment on the scene and were taken to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton.
Goodwin was arrested for allegedly fleeing and eluding law enforcement and reckless driving. He was ticketed for illegal passing in a no-passing zone.
Masi first observed the motorist driving with an excessive number of people in the Buick. He heard its engine rev and then saw the vehicle turn north on Gulf Drive from the 100 block of Bridge Street and bottom out.
The officer followed as the driver turned right onto 10th Street North. There, the vehicle circled, accelerated and nearly hit Masi’s squad, the report stated.
The vehicle allegedly skidded from 10th Street North and headed north on Gulf Drive. Masi activated his vehicle lights and siren.
The motorist allegedly passed two vehicles in a no-passing zone.
Masi reported the vehicle hit 80 mph in the 1800 block of Gulf Drive North.
The vehicle next passed Bradenton Beach Officer John Tsakari’s squad and Tsakari joined the chase.
Goodwin was transported to the Manatee County jail.
He was booked and released on $11,000 bond, pending a Friday, Jan. 6, arraignment at the Manatee County Judicial Center, 1051 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.
