A man charged with burglarizing a Holmes Beach beachfront residence he claimed to co-own with singer-songwriter Mariah Carey was found incompetent for a second time in 12th Circuit Court.
Jason James, 37, of Bradenton, was ordered Dec. 1 to a Florida Department of Children and Family Services treatment facility based on psychologist Dr. Eddy Regnier’s report to the court.
In 12th Circuit Judge Deno Economou’s order, state and defense attorneys stipulated to use Regnier’s report “due to the extreme mental state of the Defendant and the urgency of the need to obtain proper mental health treatment.”
Typically two doctors’ reports are requested by a trial judge.
In the December order, Economou specified that James not be released from DCFC custody without a court order.
James was arrested by Holmes Beach police in March 2015 after he was found drinking beer and watching television inside the home in the 100 block of White Avenue.
In a Jan. 19 order, Economou found James incompetent and required him to live with his parents and attend an addiction program.
In September, however, James violated the prior order and the court revoked his bond, leading to the incompetency proceeding.
Incompetency rulings temporarily suspend court proceedings.
