Holmes Beach Police Department officers Feb. 27 arrested Tampa resident Jazmyn Howard, 27, on two felonies and a pair of misdemeanor charges for alleged domestic battery and child abuse, as well as violently resisting arrest and threatening law enforcement officers.
An officer patrolling Manatee Public Beach was flagged down by people in a parking lot to stop a fight between Howard and her partner.
The officer found the pair loading their vehicle, distressed and apparently injured from a previous struggle.
More officers arrived and spoke to witnesses, who said Howard began striking her partner in the parking lot and the man struck back.
Howard was acting “belligerent and intoxicated,” according to HBPD’s report.
When officers tried to detain Howard, she grabbed an infant and swung the child by an arm with one hand.
An officer took the child while others handcuffed Howard, who was taken to the Manatee County jail. She threatened the officer driving the transport vehicle and kicked at a cage separating them, according to the police report.
Howard is charged with:
- A third-degree felony for resisting arrest with violence;
- A third-degree felony for “knowingly or willfully abuses a child without causing great bodily harm;”
- A first-degree misdemeanor for domestic battery;
- A first-degree misdemeanor for threatening a law enforcement officer with death or serious bodily harm.
She was released Feb. 28 after posting $3,000 bail bond.
Judge Frederick Mercurio of the 12th Judicial Circuit Court will preside over an arraignment hearing at 8:55 a.m. Friday, March 26, at the Manatee County Judicial Center, 1051 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.
