Palmetto man arrested for obstruction, pending DUI

Holmes Beach police officers arrested Palmetto resident Alberto Jimenez-Lopez, 45, Sept. 27 after finding him intoxicated behind the wheel of a car.

An officer responded to reports of a potentially impaired driver and found the caller, who pointed out a parked vehicle that they witnessed hit several curbs and drive into oncoming traffic.

As the officer approached the motorist, later identified as Jimenez-Lopez, who smelled of alcohol, the subject tried to leave in his vehicle.

The officer grabbed Jimenez-Lopez and directed him out of the vehicle but he resisted and tried to pull loose. Jimenez-Lopez was brought to the ground and handcuffed.

EMS transported Jimenez-Lopez to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton for treatment for possible injuries. There, he provided a urine sample for testing.

After he was medically cleared, a Manatee County sheriff’s deputy transported Jimenez-Lopez to the Manatee County jail, where he remained in custody as of Sept. 30 with a $500 bond.

Officers had the vehicle towed and seized the tag, since it was not assigned to the vehicle.

“Charges for driving under the influence are pending, awaiting urinalysis results and a capias request will be submitted at a later time,” according to the police report.

The Manatee County Clerk of Court’s website, records.manateeclerk.com, already registers a first-degree misdemeanor charge against Jimenez-Lopez for obstruction without violence.

Conviction for a first-degree misdemeanor can carry up to one year in jail and/or a fine of $1,000.

An arraignment will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, at the Manatee County Judicial Center, 1051 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.
