Officers from the Holmes Beach and New College of Florida police departments arrested Bradenton resident Jon Cannon, 30, Oct. 28 on a first-degree felony charge for burglary with battery.
The arrest resulted from an investigation into an Aug. 25 incident at the New College of Florida in Sarasota, where Cannon allegedly entered a first-year student’s dorm room and put his hand down the sleeping student’s pants.
NCF police reviewed surveillance footage from the campus and saw Cannon enter and leave in a vehicle, which a nearby license plate reader identified.
Authorities tracked Cannon to his workplace at Domino’s Pizza, 5606 Marina Drive, Holmes Beach, and contacted the Holmes Beach Police Department for assistance in arresting him.
Police from both departments arrived at the pizza shop to serve an arrest warrant and found Cannon, who attempted to flee through the back of the store.
Holmes Beach officers chased Cannon through the store until his path was blocked by a locked door, at which point he complied with the officers’ instructions to get on the ground.
The officers handcuffed Cannon and turned him over to the NCF police, who transported him to the Manatee County jail. He was released Oct. 30 after posting bond, the amount was not known as The Islander went to press.
If convicted, he faces life in prison without the possibility of parole or probation for the remainder of life, as well as a $15,000 fine.
In other cases, Cannon was convicted for burglary, trespassing, resisting arrest and criminal sexual contact involving incidents at Rider University and the College of New Jersey, both in New Jersey.
