Turtle, trip hazard

A hole several feet deep is left on the shoreline in Holmes Beach, discovered June 20 by Bradenton Beach resident Colleen Hallinger. Holes left by beachgoers can harm sea turtles and their hatchlings, which can become stuck and suffer dehydration. They also can pose hazards for people and safety vehicles. Holmes Beach Police Chief Bill Tokajer told The Islander June 28 that beachgoers should fill in holes they dig on the beach.
