The installation of a conduit in Holmes Beach may have resulted in damages at one property.
Tampa-based RON Solutions chief executive officer Raymi Sanchez told The Islander Nov. 7 that they struck a sewer line leading to the home at 302 58th St., which sustained damage when the sewer backed up into the residence.
According to Sanchez, a crew was installing an empty fiber-optic conduit along 60th Street for Frontier Solutions on Sept. 30 when they struck a sewer lateral connecting the 58th Street property to the sewer main.
He said the crew repaired the lateral line, but did not repair a sewer cleanout they did not realize was also damaged.
Sanchez said that on Nov. 5 the property owners, Alexander and Carla Kuizon, called Manatee County to report sewage in their home.
County and city staff responded and found the sewer cleanout was cracked, so RON Solutions dispatched a crew to repair it.
However, that does not address the damages inside the home, which Sanchez called a “disaster.”
“It looks like there was an explosion of sewer water coming out of the toilet and faucets,” he said. “I’ve been in the business for quite some time, and I have never seen something like that caused by a sewer strike.”
Sanchez said he wants to help restore the property in whatever way possible.
“I want to help her out,” he said. “I feel very sorry and I want to do the best that I can to help her out.”
He said he was on standby until the property owners get a quote on the cost for repairs.
However, Sanchez also expressed disbelief that the sewer damage caused by his company could have led to the mess.
“Our conduit striking that sewer line could have not made this mess,” he said. “It wouldn’t cause liquid or sewer water to go in the house, it would actually prevent it.”
“It’s weird because I have no idea what could have caused this thing to backlash into the house, other than something coming from the main sewer,” he added.
The Kuizons’ daughter, Kimberly Giasone, told The Islander Nov. 7 that her parents were preparing to move back to their remodeled home for the first time since the 2024 hurricanes, but that plan is on hold.
The Kuizons declined to comment to The Islander.
