Holmes Beach police arrested Port Charlotte resident Christian Cornell, 45, March 11 on a second-degree misdemeanor for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.
An officer saw Cornell riding an electronic bicycle at about 20 mph in the 3000 block of Gulf Drive around 3 a.m. The officer observed Cornell cross into an opposing travel lane and nearly lose balance while swerving side to side.
During a traffic stop, the officer noted Cornell displayed signs of impairment. Cornell refused field sobriety exercises and also refused to provide breath samples after his arrest.
He was transported to HCA Florida North River Ranch Emergency Room for medical clearance, then to the Manatee County jail. He was released the same day after posting $750 bond.
If convicted, punishment includes up to 60 days in jail, six months of probation and a fine of up to $500.
