Perico man reaches semifinals in tennis tournament

Mark Malinowski of Perico Island reached the semifinals of the Level 3 USTA National Red Clay Championship tournament earlier this month at Arlington Tennis Club in Kearny, New Jersey. The tournament featured 157 players in 10 divisions. In the 60s division, unseeded Malinowski defeated Rick Lambert of Parkland and fourth seed Marty Secada of Plantation before losing 76 36 46 to No. 1 seed Jeffrey Callan of Princeton New Jersey. Callan subsequently won the final by walkover versus the injured Matthew Gitterman of New Jersey. “It was my best result in a national tournament,” Malinowski told The Islander.
