Manatee bed tax sets another June record at $4.6 million

In June, the county took in more than $4.6 million from the tourist development tax, an increase of 27.63% from the June 2025 collection, according to a report provided Aug. 3 by the county tax collector’s office.

      In June, the collection was $4,605,833. For June 2025, the collection was $3,608,714.

      For May, the tax collected from accommodations, also known as the bed tax, was $3,128,373.82.

      The income comes from the 6% tax on rentals of six months or less. The tax rate rose in January 2025 from 5% after voters approved a 2024 referendum.

      June revenues have climbed year after year, except for June 2020, when revenue fell due to the coronavirus pandemic. That year, the tax generated $1,443,184 in June, down from $1,653,010 for the same month in 2019.

      In June 2026, heads in beds in unincorporated Manatee County produced $1,672,254 in tourist development tax revenue or about 38.3% of total earnings.

      Holmes Beach accommodations accounted for $1,109,515 or 24.09% of total revenue.

      Anna Maria accommodations generated $808,883, about 17.56% of the revenue.

      Bradenton Beach accommodations produced $285,422 — 6.2% of the revenue pie.

      More June statistics:

  • Longboat Key generated $275,361, or 5.98%;
  • Bradenton generated $398,006, or 8.64%;
  • Palmetto generated $56,834, or 1.23%.

      Minus the tax collector’s 3% monthly administrative fee, the county’s net resort revenue in June was $4,467,658.

      From Oct. 1, 2025, through June 30, the bed tax generated $31,241,697.

      The July revenues will be released in early September.

      The county tourist development council advises the county commission on how to spend the local revenue, which under state law must go to develop tourism and tourist amenities.

      The money has been used to rebuild the Anna Maria City Pier, beach renourishment on the island, maintain the beaches, launch the Gulf Islands Ferry service, improve venues and support cultural enrichment, such as a concert series at the Center of Anna Maria Island.

            The advisory board’s next meeting will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 17, at the center, 407 Magnolia Ave., Anna Maria.
