A man who lists the Bradenton Beach Marina as his home was arrested for possession of heroin and Xanax.
A Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputy arrested Scott Loftus Feb. 20 at Winn-Dixie, 2501 Cortez W., Bradenton, after a manager reported a man in a restroom with a syringe in his arm.
Upon the deputy’s arrival, he smelled vinegar and saw a spoon containing a brown substance, according to the MCSO report.
The deputy allegedly ordered the suspect to exit the restroom and observed a syringe in his front pocket.
According to the report, the 26-year-old Loftus told the deputy he flushed the heroin when he heard him enter the restroom.
Loftus allegedly consented to a search of his grocery bag and his person, and the deputy found two bags of brown powdery substance, a white pill inside his wallet and, two half-full syringes and a plastic spoon in his pocket, according to the MCSO report.
After his arrest, Loftus allegedly told the deputy the drugs were his and he had a drug problem.
He was transported to Manatee County jail.
At his first court hearing, Loftus was appointed a public defender and bond was set at $3,000.
His arraignment is set for 9 a.m. Friday, March 27, at the Manatee County Judicial Center, 1051 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.
