Blood moon over Bean Point

The moon takes on a reddish glow during the total lunar eclipse, often called a “blood moon”, early March 3, as seen from Bean Point at the north end of Anna Maria Island. The red color occurs when Earth passes between the sun and moon, filtering sunlight through the planet’s atmosphere and casting a copper-colored shadow across the lunar surface.
