The price to play
In this instance, the price to play will be the price to view online “the best news on Anna Maria Island since 1992.”
The free ride is coming to an end for readers and subscribers to The Islander online edition, as we join newspapers all across the United States and other countries that are looking for ways to survive in the present economy AND looking for ways to offset the cost of maintaining an online edition of the news.
A profit for online news is yet another story, but we can be hopeful. For now, we hope to offset the cost of the “free press” and we trust you will find a value in our service.
We will soon initiate a “gateway” to the news site for full access to the various news stories and sections of The Islander that we have routinely posted free on our Web site for eight years.
An online subscription will include access to the full content of The Islander in the format of an e-edition. It will include all the pages of the print edition, displayed before you just as though you were holding the paper in your hands. It will allow access to all the weekly news, classified advertising, obituaries, news archives and special editions.
We appreciate being able to serve you, our readers, for 17-plus years with the free news, but now it’s time to pay online.
The print edition of the newspaper will remain free and available at all the usual distribution points and by home delivery on Anna Maria Island.
For $36 a year for online service — and less for shorter terms — you can’t beat it, and you can’t get our AMI news anywhere else this easy and fast. And our Web site has proven success, exceeding visits by both our competition and the Anna Maria Island Chamber of Commerce.
And we post our online edition before the printed newspaper hits the streets and driveways on AMI.
Thanks for reading The Islander.
